1. Use all listing types.

To get started ebay is not just an auction site.  You can list with a “Buy it Now” price and skip the entire drawn out auction.  Also you can list for a fixed price instead of an auction.  With a fixed price auction you can also change the quantity and sell multiple of the same item.

2. List, list, & list. Keep your store stocked.

This is a basic one list, list, and list.  You never know if someone wants your item unless you list it.  It doesn’t hurt to test the market for something just laying around the house.

3. Take quality pictures and accurately describe item in description.

Great pictures and a descriptive description are a buyers best friend.  Nothing builds trust like accurately listing the items you are selling

4. Reuse shipping materials/save boxes

Save those boxes, mailers, and bubble wrap from online shopping from other retailers.  Free shipping materials and you get to recycle you can’t beat that.  I made the mistake of needing a box and FedEx told me a box would cost $13! NEVER AGAIN!

5. Packaging/Presentation

If your selling clothing are items that don’t need bubble mailers or a box.  Invest in some tear proof mailers.  They are lightweight and will save you money on shipping.  For a more professional and a way to keep the items inside clean get some clear cellophane bags.

6. Properly weigh items before

Nothing hurts more than listing an item with the wrong shipping weight and dimensions.  You can save your self some headache and money by knowing how you are going to ship an item before listing it.

7. Use the eBay shipping discounts/Media Mail

Becoming a qualified or top rated seller on ebay can net you a shipping discount when using eBay labels.  In general I have net at least a dollar profit every time I ship.  If you are selling books or other qualifying materials use Media Mail.  So much shipping profit can be gained using it.  In general Media Mail offers about the same shipping timelines.  Media Mail is also ground shipping only so it could possible be a little slower.

8. Price your items right

I would rather list to high and resist than lose out on potential profit.  So do your research when setting your listing price.  Check past ebay listing sale prices and check what the item is selling for on Amazon.

9. Fees – Prepay fees/Affiliate links to avoid fees/Improve seller level

Whenever you sell an item go pay your final value fees immediately.  No need getting a surprise bill from eBay a month later once all your money is spent.

10. Timing of listings

If possible try to time your listing so you don’t have listing ending at all different times and on random days.  Use scheduled listing times so you are in full control.  Having a listing plan can save you time and some trips to Post Office.
